In today’s technological world, there isn’t much that would surprise any of us, especially when it comes to online gaming. The days of in-house casinos are numbered as online casinos take their place and sports betting has not been done with a local bookmaker in decades since it is much easier to place your bets online. So, what is there that could surprise us anymore? How about the rise of the E-sports industry right here in the UK? I don’t think any of us could have predicted that we would one day be watching someone playing videogames online and place bets on the outcomes.
Be it as it may, the e-sports industry is fast becoming a major player in the online gaming world and with more than 150 million fans from all over the world, e-sports just might surpass other sporting events.
Video Games Over Football?
Millennials are no longer interested in contact sports and cricket, football and tennis seem far and away for the average young person. Instead, they would rather watch an epic online battle between two top-ranked gamers playing the latest FPS or RPG. Even networks such as ESPN have gotten in the action which has brought along many advertisers and millions of dollars in prize money.
This new tech obsession is growing stronger as many e-sports fans have grown up in the era of bitcoin and tech wearables. Smartphones are everywhere, and they can do just about the tech inspired could need or want. By 2020, it is estimated that the e-sports industry will be worth more than $1.5 billion. This has many of the world’s largest brands taking note and wanting to become a part of the show.
Millions of Dollars Generated by E-Sports
Due to the millions in revenue e-sports generates every year, new software companies are opening every month and the technology is advancing at a phenomenal pace. Future sports stars may not be footballers, but part of the gaming realm instead.
